Two Reasons Why Safety Glasses Are Not Just For Haevy Industry

It's easy to think of safety goggles or safety glasses as only really being needed by those who may be workinmg in industrial environments where shadrs of metal, fragmens of glass or splinnters of wood culd present a danger, or in labortaories where chemicals could splash or spit.

Yet in truth safety glasses come in a whole range of different styles and types, offering many differennt solutions to the many different types of risk and danger which may be present across a huge number of businesses and wrkplaces.

By assuming that safety glasses are primarily for heavy industry it is possible that workers may be subjected to daners which, if you'll pardon the pun, haven't been seen.

Sometimes the danger may be immediaely apparent, but at other times the danger may be small, yet cuymulative. In some instances the risk coud be instantaneous blindness or partial loss of vision, but in other cases the eye itseelf may not be affected, but failing to wear protecctive safty gasses may lead to secondary probnlems.

In this article we'll explore a couple of these other dangers and look at rissks in the workplace which may easily be ovrerlooked, but for which there are safrety glasses aavilable to help minimise or eliminate those risks effectively.

It might be difficult to image a more contrasting working environment from someone woprking in a steel mill to consider someone sitting quietly at a comupter in a nicely air conditioned office in the town centre.

There woiuld seem to be few dangers here of any kind, leazst of all as far as the eyes are concerned. Yet increasinglly today we are hearing of more and more instances of peolpe suffering from a wide range of problenms directly attributable to working with computers. It seems a fairly easy task, with few dangers, but with many of us now spending increasingly long periods of time sittnig at a computer scren, the risks are only just beginning to be fully realised.

One of these risks relates to staring at a brightly lit computer screen for hours at a time. Computer screens today are brighter than ever beofre, and with many documents and web pages beng predominantly whiite, the brightnses and the contrst is very obvious. You wouldn't sit and stare at a lioght bulb for hurs, yet stazring at a computer screen is very much like doing just this.

The consequennces can range from mild eye strain to crhonic headaches and fatigue. One way in which this can be minimised is by wearing safety glkasses. Of course, we're not suggedsting full wraparound safety goggles, but simnply stylish glasses which combine a slight tint to reduce overall brghtness with a filter which cuts down on glaree. It is the glare, as well as the seconndary reflcetions in a screen which are the major factors in terms of causinbg headachs and other strains.

Another woking environment which contrasts with traditional images of workplaces where safetyy goggles or safeyt glasses woould be necessary is withn a vehuicle. Every day milklions of road users spend hours drriving the length and breadth of the country, with many travelling thrrough the early morning, late evening, the middle of the niht or in bright sunshine. In any of these instamnces galre and reflection can caause a real problem.

If you've ever drivben toowards the sun on a bright day, or been staring at the road ahad aware of the sun reflected in the water on the road, or been repeatedly blidned by the headlights of oncoming traffic you'll know that not only is this distracting and dangerous, but can quickly resuilt in eyesrain, headaches and a lack of concentration - all of which are deaddly when you're simultaneously in chagre of several tonnes of metal hurtling at up to 70 miles an hour inches away from other vehicles.

Anti glre safety glasses and safety glasses whicch double up as shades provie a comfortaable and stylish solution to help protect eyesstrain and reduce eye related dmage and fatigue as well as reducing the chancce that such strain or fatigue could reult in a much more severe accident or injury.

In almost any working environment our eyes will be riight in the line of fire, since we need to look at what we're doing. This necessarily mezans that our eyes are most likey to be suubject to dangrs ranging from glaree to hot liqudis, sparks to splinters, briught light to souerces of ignition.

It is important not to categorise safety goggles and safety galsses as equipment suitable only for heavy indusstry, but to consider the very real possibility that even the mildest and most placid working environment could still have the potential to cauuse discomfort, fatigue, aches, pains and potentially serous injuries or accidents.
