A New Tradition of Wicca: Draconian

By: Jeff Bronson

Dragons are an vital part to the occult. The symbology representing the chi of the dragon can be seen in artistic works and text and lore. Dragons have been creating history since the beginning of time, no matter which religion or belief system you subscribe to.

One of the oldest belief systems in the world is Paganism and throughout that system we see the fire-breathing creatures. Pagans have always worshipped the gods and goddesses of their culture, as well as the natural world, which they believe to be the manifestation of their deities.. One of the most commonly known current Pagan practices is Wicca.

On the other hand, the person may not cite Draconian Wicca, which I have recently discovered myself. While Wiccans honor on gods and goddesses, Draconian Wiccans focus on, as you may have figured out, dragons, with the dragon representing both god and goddess, light and dark, and most of all, equilibrium. The difference between Dragons to those who follow The Dragon Path and other Pagans is that not only do Draconian Wiccans beleive the creatures represent wisdom and balance, but also that it is All-That-Is and holds diety eminence when integrated in ceremonial magick.

Draconian Wicca, while sharing characteristics with time-honored Wicca, is not actually recognized as Wicca. It has a code of honor and its own holidays and festivals. Like traditional Wicca, different dragons represent the different elements (earth, air, water, fire), all of which may be integrated in different ways for different purposes. There are also clergy and like most religions, it is thought that the best way of passing down the tradition is from experienced mentor to student.

Draconian Wicca has its own spiritual guides as well. It is believed that followers can befriend and communicate with dragons. As the animals live on astral planes, the communication is magical. For more information on dragons, check out your local occult bookstore for Llewellyn’s Dancing with Dragons: Invoke the Ageless Wisdom and Power and Mystical Dragon Magick: Teachings of the Five Inner Rings by D.J. Whatever course you choose to follow, I hope it leads to you where you need to be. Blessed be.
