Action and Adventure-Filled New DVD Movie Releases

By: Norman Kirby

One of the most anticipated months by moviegoers is the merry summer month of May. Most of the movie studios' big budgeted flicks, whether new titles or follow-ups to old favorites, are usually released during this month, hence the impressive roster of celebrities, directors, and titles who have movies coming out during May. May is also when most of the most anticipated action/adventure movies are showcased to audiences composed of children and adults alike. Three new DVD movie releases made during September comprised of this year's most anticipated summer blockbusters: Disney's "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time", Universal Studios' "Robin Hood", and Marvel/Paramount's "Iron Man 2".
"Prince of Persia: Sands of Time"
Dramatic actor Jake Gyllenhaal takes the action/adventure route in Mike Newell's "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time". Producer Jerry Bruckheimer is also attached to the project so it's pretty much a guarantee that this flick will have breathtaking production designs and adrenaline-pumping action scenes that are trademarks of Jerry Bruckheimer movies. Plus it's a Disney flick, so it's sure to be fun for the entire family. The rogue Prince Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) of the Persian Empire is on the run as he is wrongly accused of murdering his adoptive royal father. His only hope is an enchanted dagger that gives its owner the power to reverse time and rule the world. Along the way, Prince Dastan must survive the wrath of his vengeful brothers, a scheming uncle (Ben Kingsley), assassins galore, a greedy sheik (Alfred Molina), and the rival Princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton) who will do whatever it takes to safeguard the magical dagger. The movie is based on the popular "Prince of Persia" video game franchise.
"Robin Hood"
Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott, the award-winning duo behind 2000's "Gladiator", are back in their take of the famous outlaw's origins story. Robin Longstride (Russell Crowe) is but a common archer in King Richard's army during the turn of the turbulent 12th century. After King Richard's death in France, he returns to England and assumes the identity of a knight by the name of Robin Loxley who was slain by the traitorous Sir Godfrey (Mark Strong). He continues the pretense of being Robin Loxley in order to save the Loxley lands in Nottingham, along with the knight's grieving widow Lady Marian (Cate Blanchett) and the citizens of Nottingham. With the war against France looming over the horizon, can Robin take on the task of saving England from the clutches of scheming royals and traitors?
"Iron Man 2"
Robert Downey Jr. was probably the last actor you would ever imagine portraying a comic book hero. But as expected from the Robert Downey Jr., who can seem to do no wrong when it comes to acting, he proved his detractors wrong thanks to the success of 2008's "Iron Man" under the direction of Jon Favreau. When viewers last saw billionaire Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), he had just revealed his identity as Iron Man to the public. The sequel picks up where the first left off, showing Stark resisting to hand over the technology he developed to the US government. The problem is a Russian physicist by the name of Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke) managed to duplicate the technology himself and he's out for Stark's blood.
So what are you waiting for? Sit back, watch these new DVD movie releases, and relive the adventures of these heroes.
