After 10 kids, woman pursues medical career

By: Rebecca Singer

A woman who was already forty years old came in her ragged farm clothing glory in to the local university?s college of literature, science and the arts back in the year 1964. She was nothing more but a convent educated farm wife who just got out of a chicken ranch and here she was saying that she intended to become a doctor. Since the admissions head was so skeptical, she got sent to the university psychologist first before getting her approval.

The university spokesperson shares that after ten years, this spring marks the personal record achieved by this lady, which is unlikely to be paralleled. They are also proud of her for within that decade that she had beautifully struggled to meet her premed and medical school requirements for a doctorate, she was able to raise her 10 kids with her husband?s help so well.

This lady physician has a lot on her hands because the following year, she will have her internship at a local hospital to be followed by an application for a 3 year residency program at an eastern medical center for her intensive internal medicine practice. She states that she aspires to have a full medical career. Twenty five years is the average career of a doctor and I intend to last beyond that.

In the year 1964, her husband who was then operating a 145 acre chicken farm for 15 years, decided that he needed a career shift and with this, he asked his spouse to hit upon ways to produce more income for their growing family. He got a job as a specialist in electronics instrumentation at the local laboratory of research. Pursuing higher studies as well as a part time job in the university?s blood processing laboratory was what the wife decided to do.

People often ask her about her situation, but she guarantees everyone that it?s not really that tough being a mother of many children while she is focused on her studies. Of course, we struggled each day and we learned to manage our money wisely. But without me even asking for it, all of them pitched in. Bill, a remarkably helpful father and their kids truly contributed so much. I only took care of the dishes for I am not so much into cooking. At times that I have to cook and handle the dishes, all work out fine.

This hard driven lady was able to attain a 3 point 2 average in her premed program and while she waited to be accepted in a medical school, she enrolled herself in graduate biology class on a part time basis. She truly believes that medical school did not only make her better but also enriched her family too. One advantage is that the children got to meet an entire new group of people, faculty and medical students, right inside their very own home. They learned to respect different people regardless of where they came from thanks to the fact that they were introduced to many people from different walks of life.

One of my daughters was asked once what it was like to have a mother who's always away so much. She told him that their mom is not just a parent but also a person in her own right. Only two of their kids remain at home now. And these are none other than their two youngest sons, one 17 who just graduated high school while the younger one at 14 years of age is still in junior high. But the eldest among their children, a son aged 29 lives within their area and manages his own business, a local motorcycle supply store. On her medical achievements, this lady doctor avers that the secret is that she has never lost her role as a woman as she embraced the obligations of a doctor. She says that it was personal enrichment and a duty she had to fulfill and because of this, she is triumphant.
