Best mans speeches

The first thing I thought of when asked to give a best mans wedding speech was oh no.
The other duty I think that a best man must undertake is to ensure all the other important people at the wedding are well organised to deliver their talk or do their part in the day as well as they can.
Usually the other peope who are asked to contribute to the day are, brides maids,the groom and the father of the bride.To help them out I decided to do a little research and come up with some guidance to help the day along. I broke the advice into the following sections;
Over all Best wedding speeches
I asked my father about the best wedding speeches and he said that if you are not great at public speeking then the best speeches tend to be the shortest. Stand up thank all you have to and sit down. Although I agree with most of this I still believed we could improve greatly on this with a little thought and planning.
So where to get inspiration
A good speech requires inspiration to capture the essence of the person or the couple you are talking about. It gives you the opportunity to delve a little into their history and unearth some interesting facts.
knowing you audience
Its a must to understand who is in the reception. What are the main groups of people there and do you know them.Are they all family or is there some friends or work mates.Have some guests come from a far away place? By doing a little work on the guest list you can quickly get some good material for the speeches.
What can go wrong with your speech
If you know that you might dry up or loose your train of thought make sure you have got good speeking notes cloose at hand. If during the middle of the speech you feel like you cannot remember what you were going to say take a little time to get your thoughts back. Remember that you are not in an interview but at a happy occasion where all the guests just want to enjoy their day. Have an interesting story or a favourite picture of the groom to talk about . Then once you get going again you will remeber where you left off and manage to finish your talk.
You thank all on your list
If you are the best man or whatever position you have at the wedding check with the bride and groom well before hand if they want you to thank anyone special . They may have a list of people they would like you to mention. It'll be good if you could add a funny story about each person you mention.Most importantly remember to add a catch all thankyou as you will never remember to thank all the right people.
By following these rules that we set you should hopefully give at least a good wedding speech and with a little practise a great speech.

How many people have come from the couples work or are they all friends? If you dig around the invitation list you shouldbe able to get a feeling for the guests.

Talk to the happy cuple and find out who they would like you to put in amention about. As you will never remember everyone its generally good to thank everyone generally so this should keep on everyones right side.
