Building A Storage Shed - Using Proven Shed Plans

By: Amanda Bee

Building a shed is not as difficult as you think and can in fact be done by an amateur as long as you make the necessary preparation right from the start of the project.

You start from making a decision whether to build the shed yourself using the available wood shed plans or build it using the prefab kits available on the market. Either way has its pros and cons; and each one requires step-by-step instructions on the things you need to do.

First, you need to figure out where exactly you want to locate your shed to blend perfectly with your landscape, to decide how wide it would be and to make sure that the area you intend to build your shed is level and flat. These factors will actually help you decide what better method to use in building your shed.

If you have decided to use wood shed plans, the first thing you should do is to find out what plan is best suited for you. Choose the project that you love to do and make sure the plan is according to the level of your skills. Study the plan carefully before you start to determine what materials to use.

Everything you need to know should be incorporated in the instructions enclosed with the plan. You should check the availability of materials recommended in the plan before you start especially the base which ideally should be made of concrete.

Before anything else you need to build the foundation. Make sure to follow the instructions on building the foundation. Don’t rush and don’t ever dare to make any shortcuts.

Building your shed using a premade kit is a lot easier, but also takes some amount of creativity to do it and instructions should be followed to the letter. There are just a few points that you need to consider when buying a kit for your project.

First, you have to make sure that the shed will serve its purpose. Here’s another thing: if there are parts that are not included in the kit you just have to clarify this with the store owner. If they come with the kit, make sure that you will not have any difficulty installing them.

The moment you have your kit unloaded in your yard, make sure that there are no missing parts. Start setting the foundation based on the directions.
