Exposing the causes of hearing loss

Over time, as people grow older the body starts to decay, cells die, body parts malfunction and we start to lose things we normally take for granted like hearing. When things don?t work properly, as in the case of the ears, then a person will likely get hearing loss. It is therefore appropriate to dig deeper on the issues of what causes hearing loss in the first place.

There are many meanings to the term hearing loss, and it encompasses not just a person who is unable to hear completely. A person who still hears but hears less than the average person may well be considered a person who is experiencing hearing loss. Hearing loss can be easily caused by a person contracting some form of illness that affects the auditory senses. There are a lot of diseases that result in loss of hearing, for example mumps and meningitis to name a few. Some diseases may not manifest any clear damages to hearing while others are more pronounced.

In relation to illnesses, another very common cause of hearing loss comes from a person taking some form of medication, prescribed or not. Medications can sometimes reversibly affect hearing and at other times cause irreversible damage. Medication such as the common headache reliever aspirin, are linked and been accused of causing loss of hearing in people.

In connection to medication, Ototoxic chemicals causes hearing loss in people as well. Unknowingly, some chemicals can harm a person?s hearing senses by causing havoc among the ear parts. Some medication can sometimes be ototoxic chemicals, while some forms of solvents, pesticides are commonly classified as such too.

A person who suffered through some sort of physical trauma can sometimes be inflicted with hearing loss. Falling down a staircase, hitting your head from contact sports can all lead to hearing disorders such as tinnitus or loss of hearing permanently or temporarily. Aside from injuries, noise pollution like concerts, crowds and noisy gatherings can all do a number on a person as well.

Hearing loss is a huge discussion and one article cannot completely list all the things that cause it. If a person is not careful in taking care of their sense of hearing he or she may lose it forever. Being on the defensive when it comes to loss of hearing is the best strategy anyone can give.
