Gilbert Arenas Murders the Sports Betting Professor on January 6th

By: Rich Allen

Wow, I always thought Gilbert Arenas was a bit of a idiot. I solidified that judgment when he brought in guns to an NBA locker room in a show of force while a teammate had the nerve to demand payment after Arenas lost a bet (I don’t throw stones about his betting). When the incident was reported to the media and the Washington DC police became involved, Arenas responded by joking about the occurrence on his Twitter page. The ultimate nail in the coffin was when he jokingly shot his teammates in a bizarre, pre-rehearsed ritual during his introduction at a game in Philadelphia Tuesday evening. Ok, so Gilbert is just a spoiled basketball star on a bad team, no harm no foul. Well tonight the event caused some uproar in my life and the lives of my subscribers. The Sports Betting Professor became the forgotten victim in the Gilbert Arenas scandal.
On Wednesday around 4 pm, I decided to send my picks out to my thousands of subscribers about the evening's NBA action, just like I do every evening. Well, one game fit the system, Washington vs. Cleveland. Washington was getting 13 points and my statistical system that has predicted over 70% of individual games accurately and well over 90% of my progression bets right, picked Washington. Not 10 minutes after my picks were sent, word came down that Arenas would be suspended… No!!!!!!! My system clearly states that any key injury, absence or suspension for brandishing firearms in an NBA locker room is grounds to cancel a bet. What to do??? I without delay emailed my subscribers to void the Washington bet if possible. I contacted many of them on time, but some had put their picks in already. This was tragic!
In the end, the Wizards were blown out 121-98, and my bet lost. Had Arenas not antagonized NBA upper management the night before, he may have been allowed to play the game as its customary for NBA management to delay until law enforcement investigates a situation before levying their own penalty. Arenas' suspension after bets were placed was a tradgedy, but like all strong bettors, we will survive. It is dreadful to take this mark on a record NBA season for myself and my subscribers.
