Green Cleaning Methods and Cleaning Materials

By: Stella Jones

A significant number of products are seen everywhere in our homes and the same number or even more is seen in our office buildings and most of the time, we really don’t pay attention to the effects of the materials used in making these products to our health and environment. Instead of getting rid of germs, we are actually making things worse, especially to the environment.

The traditional cleaning products that we are all accustomed with have terrible implications to the environment and our health. Most cleaning agents are so powerful that they annihilate everything they come in contact with making matters even worse. We should choose cleaning products that are not just effective in cleaning our surroundings but also gentle to the environment.

The growing awareness on the health and environmental impacts these toxic cleaning products bring, more and more green, healthy cleaning products are finding their way to our shopping carts. Most of these modern and simple to use cleaning products are biodegradable, non-toxic and most of all, they are all made from renewable Earth friendly resources, not petroleum based.

And if you don’t have any of these products handy, all you need to do is mix warm water with vinegar and baking soda and viola! You now have an all-purpose cleaning formula.

With the advent of better home and office insulation to be more energy efficient, we are keeping the toxins in, making the insides of your office and homes more toxic than the air outside. Opening you windows once and a while would be a good idea to let fresh air in and the toxic air out, this process will help in cleaning your home.

Soap and water are better in cleaning your hands than using antibacterial hand sanitizers, this will add to the risk of breeding “super germs.” These microbes will become resistant when they are always bombarded with these types of cleaners.

Baking soda is good in eliminating strange smells from your fridge and will also do the same great job on your carpet. All you have to do is sprinkle a little to soak up the smell and clean it with a vacuum cleaner.

Boiling cinnamon will be a great alternative than buying an air freshener. This will create a warm and friendly aroma to your home. Big broad green leaf plants will do a great job in filtering the air inside your home.

Now that you’re ready to get rid of those old cleaning products, don’t just throw them in the trash, they are too toxic for landfills as well. Ask for recycling plants or toxic containment centers in your area. You certainly don’t want these toxic wastes ending up in your water supply do you?

If you’re planning to build a new home or planning to move to a new apartment, choose the right design that will require very minimal cleaning products or services. This concept will save you tons of money in the long run.
