Laser Technology Involves Shooting Light Underneath the Skin's Surface

By: arinod matthew

By the time she reached age 21, this girl began to notice the hair growing on her chin. Constant plucking, shaving, and waxing for more than 20 years has done nothing to keep a thick and dark stubble from ending up on her chin. Dark facial hair appeared on the upper lip and chin of another girl who was only 12 years old. Being reflected on by the sun was something she dreaded to happen, she recalled, which explained why she would keep her back toward the window when she'd go into a restaurant.

Her effort to boost her self confidence as a teenager by bleaching her effort did not pay much. Sometimes, it was the time of the day that made me feel either comfortable or uncomfortable. These two girls can now say that they have found something that works after years of feeling self conscious and being experimental with different hair removal techniques. The laser hair removal system is what they now depend on to get rid of unwanted facial hair.

Available in the United States since 1997, laser hair removal is a noninvasive laser procedure that directs bursts of intense light below the skin's surface to heat and destroy hair follicles. In certain cases, hair removal may not be done so that it never comes back again ever, but hair removal may temporarily last a long time to make men and women feel more comfortable.

I think that this is the best thing yet that could help a person who has been plagued by hair growth all her life. You won't be completely hairless, but you would feel great. After that first trip, the lady came back four more times for treatment and has had a few touch ups in between also. The procedures, she said, have been so successful, she is left with only five black hairs on her chin.

To date, it really is the most effective of techniques in hair removal. This takes a problem that's not manageable and makes it manageable. A number of patients at the center have problems with excess body hair because of too many male hormones, which is a condition called polycystic ovary syndrome, or hirsutism, which is characterized by hair growth in abnormal places.

Many men, not just women, find laser hair removal to be the solution to excessive hair problems they have, such as excessive hair on their backs. Instead of waxing and shaving, people would gladly consider taking the treatment instead to remove all that unwanted hair. After seeing how the treatments helped her facial appearance, the other girl wanted to see how the treatment would work on her underarms as well. She wanted to get rid of the shadow that was there, but she said shaving wasn't really the problem.

Contacting the medical director of a local health and beauty institute was one patient did after seeing the different ads for the removal system. In a similar case just like other hair removal patients, she was looking for a solution that was permanent. These people will not get what they want, and so it would be better if I don't treat them at all, states the director. Hair removal is not a permanent solution. Instead, we use the technology to create a long term effect of hair reduction and growth control.

A questionnaire regarding hair growth and the places where treatment should be done is given to the patient to answer before the director agrees to treat him or her. Included in the questionnaire is a question about the patients' expectations. Those who want no further hair growth whatsoever, he politely declines. Those who do go through with the procedure are more than welcome to the thought of reduced hair growth and density for a rather long period of time. The procedure made things simpler for me since I have very sensitive skin and taking care of it has been really irritating, she said.
