Lots of ways to earn money from your blog

By: Richard Lunt

A good starting point would be Google’s Adsense. Google examines your site and its textual content and determines which of it’s adverts are best matched for your page content. By doing this it tries to deliver adverts that are most likely to be related to your regular readers. Your site then earns an income when your visitors click on these adverts to visit sites - with the majority of these clicks earning you cash. Your income is determined directly by how many clicks your adverts are getting and what subject your website concentrates on. Some subjects are worth far more per click than other subjects.

The second popular choice to look at is Amazon. With this setup you can advertise specific items from within their catalogue or you permit their system display their choice of items from your selected keyword. You just enter a keyword and they list the books (or other ranges, if you select) that are appropriate to that keyword. On a blog this probably means just using one keyword to cover the entire blog, but that shouldn’t be an issue. You can also display more specific links on individual posts. Here you are making money every time a new visitor clicks on to the Amazon site and then goes on to buy an item.

ClickBank is another popular alternative, this time selling electronic downloaded books. As with Amazon you can show slected e-books or make use of a frame that has all e-books that are relevant to a keyword. Again, you are earning a payment with each purchase made coming from a click on your blog.

Larger affiliate schemes are a possibility, but I included the above three systems as they offer products that most of the others don’t offer - they aren’t geographically dependent. Most affiliate schemes are only paying for in traffic from their own country, as distributing to another country causes headaches. Google gets around this by displaying adverts only related to the country the visitor is from, whilst ClickBank can easily sell to most countries, as it is delivering the items electronically. But if you are very specific and not getting many visitors from abroad, then there are obviously a whole choice of affiliate schemes for you to belong to and take part in.

Lastly, there are a wealth of pay per post web sites. Not without their own problems, here you earn a fee for writing a post within your blog that acts as a referral to the advertiser. The fees vary, depending on the campaign and your own blog. But you can normally only become a member of such services with an established blog. Usually, blogs must be at least 3 months old. The fee your blog can earn depends on its subject matter, the advertisers and how many posts you are able to post.
