By: Kelly Majive

There are basically two buildings and art-deco Carillon tower was started in the year 1932 whereas Hall of Memories was started in the year 1964. The most interesting thing is that the architects who worked on both the buildings were same.

The National War Memorial Carillon building has around 74 bells in it and they are of the weight in kilograms and tons. This place is the third largest in the world as far as combined weight of the bells are concerned. The height of this tower is 50.6 meters. The range of sound in the instruments is up to 6 octaves.

And talking about Hall of Memories, its plan was initially proposed in the year 1920. But then the country was hit by the Great Depression of 1930 and then thereafter there was World War II. But finally the building work of this place got completed in the year 1964.

In order to remember those people who have lost their lives in various wars for the country as well as operations for peace, the remnants of an unknown warrior were buried in a tomb. The unknown warrior is one of the citizens of New Zealand who gave away his life in one of the peace operations. In the year 2004, November the Defense Force of the country brought the unknown warrior home. This unknown warrior was honored by the government and was given medals. This was time when many people came in mobs to honor this unknown warrior. Such is the amazing history of this place.
