The "Skilled Poker League" is here. A brand new concept created, funded, and brought to fruition by some very talented (and financed) businessmen, the PPL assembled 64 of the perfect players on the earth for the inaugural draft. The eight teams, led by captains and co-captains chosen by the PPL player selection committee, had a tricky job in front of them: Rank and pick a workforce that will, over the course of a 12 months, dominate the tournaments and games. And, do it publicly.
As we assembled for the draft on the Venetian, the strain was palpable. The captains weren't giving much away by way of technique, nevertheless it was clear that they had carried out their homework. Daniel Negreanu said, "I've spent more than 100 hours on this thing in the last week. I was born for this. I've been playing fantasy leagues all my life." Chris Ferguson stated, "we're on the lookout for gamers that will match collectively on an actual team. We're looking for guys that are willing to study, and guys that will not hold again after we share data with each other. We need workforce players."
