Packing Tips From a Professional Moving Company

By: Remington Moving

Here are some packing tips from Remington Moving and Storage, a trusted name in moving.[When you are planning your next move, keep in mind that its important to know what not to pack| When you begin packing for your next move, remember, an important part of excellent packing is knowing what not to pack. } Remington Moving & Storage makes the following recommendations about items you shouldn't pack during your next move. You are advised not to pack oil and fuel. Not only are they inflammable, they also easily spill from machines and containers and ruin valuable goods being transported along side them. Should you be planning to transport a fuel containing machine such as a gas powered lawn mower be sure to carefully drain the tank. Also don't pack partially used cans of paint thinner, oil or other substances that might leak. Throw them away instead. Propane tanks can be transported long distance, but only if they are professionally emptied and cleaned. They are forbidden to be transported in local moves. While you can move satellite dishes, think twice before you do. Dismantling and moving the dish might cost more than buying a new one. Flammable chemicals are also no-nos when it comes time to making your next move. You should throw away flammable, corrosive or explosive items including the following items: acid, gasoline poisons, charcoal, lighter fluid, fertilizer, paints, car batteries, matches, nail polish and remover, ammunition, liquid bleach, stern, aerosols, kerosene, pool chemicals, chemistry sets, fireworks, pesticides, motor oil, paint thinner, batteries, loaded weapons, weed killer, ammonia, lamp oil, propane tanks, and cleaning fluid. Yet another class of items that should definitely be excluded from your packing is anything imperishable. Just imagine the item spoiling and then dripping moldy smelly fluid onto a valuable household object, and you will appreciate why it should be excluded. A good way to prepare your refrigerator for your move is to clean it out and let it dry and air, for at least 24 hours before packing time. Keep in mind that a bit of worthless mold or liquid from a perishable item might potentially destroy a valuable household object that is packed close to it. You must also be aware of the fact that certain valuable items will not be insured by moving companies. Small expensive movables like stamp collections, gold and silver jewelry, checks, etc. make easy targets for thieves and moving companies will not insure them, or even make special insurance arrangements for the following valuable items: coins, jewelry gold, stocks, stamp collections, etc. So you will have to make separate arrangements to have these items transported. Other items, such as firearms, can be moved long distances, however, you must inform the mover ahead of time that you are planning to include them in the move.
