Step 1: Pre Order Cataclysm
I’ve already completed my sacred cataclysm pre order ceremony (just kidding! But seriously…)
In fact, the game will be shipped to arrive on my doorstep on release day!
I’ll be playing it before anyone else. Plus I don’t have to go fight a bunch of crazed fans to maybe get a copy.
What I did was purchased the game at Amazon.com and selected “Release Date Shipping” during checkout.
I’ve had a ton of people ask me where this page is, so here is the Cataclysm Pre Order Link:

Essentially, they ship the game a week or so early so I get it right on the Release Date!
In fact, I have heard of several people getting games a few days early, which is simply not possible any other way.
Step 2: Prepare Your Character
After you go ahead and pre order Cataclysm, you need to prepare your character so he will be ready to move forward to the new expansion.
Do you have enough gold?
Any unfinished quests or reputation you need to grind?
Is your profession level maxed out?
You need to make sure all these kinds of things before the WOW Cataclysm Release Date is upon us. Once you have entered the new world, you do not want to look back anymore. Its best that you finish everything you can before the game is here so you have nothing to hold you back. I consider this a bit of “cleaning house”.
Step 3: Modify Your Inventory
New expansion always means more levelling. This is just the reality of how any MMO works. New worlds equal more levelling. More levelling equals more running around and less stopping.
I do not know about you but I am a pack rat. I will collect all new things from the new world because you will never know when it might come in handy. You may need it for your crafting or just sell it off in the AH. You will need a big inventory space for all that so you need to clear all stuff before the Cataclysm Release. Date your calendar and prepare to start offloading items that aren’t important to you any more.
Step 4: Collect Materials
Some of us might not want to race our characters into the new level but rather play the new race that is coming out. Then you can have a race to see who can reach realm first max level as the new race.
To do that, you need to do the opposite of clearing your inventory which is hoarding things for your new alt. Plan your levelling route properly so you can see what items is needed in quests or gears to help levelling. Get all those before Cataclysm comes out and you will be set to completely change class.
Speaking of “collecting materials”, you might want to order up a few cases of your favourite energy drink. Grab a bunch of snacks and non-perishable foods while you’re at it. You won’t be moving for a while!
Step 5: Hone Your Skills
It’s bad how many people I see failing online.
Getting their whole group wiped over and over. Or the worst, just contributing to the group failing.
The worst part? I was that guy a while back…
Admit it, you’ve been there too. Doing a few little things wrong that have major consequences and leave you frustrated, screaming at other people over Ventrilo.
Ok, maybe not screaming, but really annoyed. The truth is, you have to actively seek out and learn the strategy of this game.
