Protecting the Immediate Surroundings of Your Belongings During an Interstate Move

By: Noah Davis

Here are a number of cogent packing recommendations from Remington Moving and Storage. When you begin packing for your next move, bear in mind, an important component of first-rate packing is knowing what not to pack. Remington Moving & Storage, makes the following suggestions about items you shouldn't pack during your next move.

You are recommended not to pack oil as well as fuel. Not only are they combustible, they also easily spill from machines and containers and ruin valuable goods being moved along side them. Should you be planning to transfer a fuel containing piece of equipment such as a gas driven lawn mower be sure to cautiously drain the tank. Additionally never pack partially used cans of paint thinner, oil or other substances that could leak. Throw them out instead. Propane tanks can be moved long distance, but only if they are professionally emptied and cleaned. They are not allowed to be transported in local moves. Although you are able to transport satellite dishes, think carefully before you do. Dismantling plus moving the dish might cost more than purching a new one.

Flammable compounds are also no-nos when it comes time to making the next move. Be certain to throw away flammable, corrosive or explosive matter including the following goods acid, gasoline poisons, charcoal, lighter fluid, fertilizer, paints, car batteries, matches, nail polish and remover, ammunition, liquid bleach, stern, aerosols, kerosene, swimming pool chemicals, chemistry sets, fireworks, pesticides, motor oil, paint remover, batteries, loaded weapons, weed killer, ammonia, lamp oil, propane tanks, plus cleaning fluid.

Yet one more group of objects that should absolutely be excluded from your packing are the imperishables. Justenvisage the item spoiling and then draining rotten smelly liquid onto a valuable family object, and you will grasp why the item should be excluded. A good means to prepare your fridge for your move is to wash it out and let it dry and air, for at least 24 hrs before packing time. Keep in mind that a bit of worthless mold or liquid from a perishable item might possibly ruin a dear household object that is packed close to it.

Before packing valuables, clarify what your mover's insurance will or will not cover. Most moving firms will not cover tiny valuables such as coins, jewels gold, stocks, stamp collections, etc. So you will have to make separate preparations to have these items transported.

Some items such as weapons can be moved long distances. But, you must state to your mover that you have such possessions, before the actual move.
