They are found throughout the country and commonly planted in roadsides. They are often used during Chiang Mai flower festival held every February since they are in bloom during this month up to May. Ratchaphruek can be grown almost anywhere in Thailand, probably one of the reasons why it becomes its national flower, aside from the fact that it represents so much of what the country is. Yellow, the color of its flowers, is significant to Thai people because it is an acknowledged color of Buddhism. It is also the color that represents Monday, when the day His Majesty the King of Thailand was born. More importantly, the ability of the golden shower trees to bloom together at the same time is a reminder to the Thai people of their unity and identity.

One specific place where you can find plenty of these flowers is in the famous Ratchaphruek Garden, which is located just outside of Chiang Mai City. Nestled in a lush mountain landscape, this garden was the site for the Royal Flora Expo 2006, which was considered as the world's most beautiful international horticultural exposition. If you want to grow Ratchaphruek flowers, you should know that they grow well in warm tropical climate like the climate in Thailand. It grows best on well-drained soil, relatively drought tolerant, and somewhat salt-tolerant. Accordingly, it will bloom better in a place where there is marked difference between temperatures of summer and winter. They can grow up to 15 yards in height, thus providing a great shade during summer. One will get to appreciate how beautiful this tree is when the flowers in Thailand are blooming and the tree sheds it leaves so that what is left are the bright yellow blossoms that marvelously hand on the branches. For purposes of Ayurvedic medicine, Golden Shower tree, particularly the pulp, is used as a mild laxative, against fever, arthritis, and in certain cardiac conditions. Regarding its wood, it is considered strong and durable. Aside from Thailand, the tree is also the state flower of Kerala in India. The Golden Shower is clearly an appropriate representation of what Thailand is as a country.
