Refurbished Golf Clubs

By: Frank Froggatt

Golf golf clubs can be really high-priced; so many individuals are starting to buy used golf golf clubs instead of new ones. It seems that the main reason that is always given for purchasing used golf clubs is the price. Plus, recycling anything is good for the environment! So when looking at used golf golf clubs, what should we know?

The face of the golf clubs head need to be the first thing that you look at to make sure that there is not much wear. Older golf clubs that have been used a lot will have a noticeable thin or worn area on the face of the club. It many times appears shiny. You need to keep looking if you find a set that is worn like this as it will not hold the ball like it needs to. Make sure that when looking at the face you make notice of the groves and are sure that they are well defined and without any dents as these can affect the flight of your ball.

The shaft of the club is the next thing that you need to examine. Make sure graphite shafts don't have worn areas or indentations that could cause weakness. Twist the grip and the head in opposite directions. If there isn't great resistance, it's a sign of weakness in the shaft. This is only an appropriate test if the shaft is graphite. With steel shafts, just look down the shaft to make sure it hasn't been bent back into shape.
The grips are also an important part of the club so you will need to examine them as well. You will be looking for cracks, splits, and worn areas. If you are really taken with a set and the grips need help, then you can get new grips put on them but you are looking at a cost of around 6 to 15 dollars per club.

Does the used golf club set have consistency with each other. Line them all up in a row and make a comparison. They all should appear to be from the same set of golf clubs. You want your used clubs to all be the same make and model that they are supposed to be. Whenever you mix and match, you can mess up the progression of the lofts in the set.

Compare prices for new clubs versus what you will be paying for your used golf clubs. Once in a while you can get a deal on a new set and actually get it cheaper than a used set. Golf stores often have some really great money saving discounts on clubs so when looking at used ones try not to rush into anything.

You can't really tell how well a set of used golf golf clubs will perform unless you are able to test drive them. Make sure that you give the golf clubs a few nice test swings to assure yourself that you like the way they feel.

Buying a set of used golf clubs is a great way to save some money on one of the most expensive parts of the golf game. However, be careful and know what you are doing before you buy. The difference that it can make in the set you choose is huge.
