The Interesting Life Cycleof Fleas

By: Dovid Davis

Some Important Facts About Flea Pests

Fleas are amongst the most important kinds of insect nuisances since they not only cause bring on by biting,
but they significantly transmit several serious medical conditions. Cat fleas are seen all through the United States and the rest of the globe. Adults grow to a length of 1/8".
Cat fleas have no wings, and their bodies are compressed in a lateral direction, (side to side). Their color is brown to black.
Female fleas out out 4-8 eggs after every blood meal, During their complete lifetime, they will lay somewhere between 400-500 eggs. Eggs are elliptical, whitish, and only about 1/64" long. The baby larvae generally hatch in 1-12 days. Flea larvae consume organic garbage but almost all must consume dried fecal blood in order to put the last touches on their development. Baby larvae fleas do not bite, instead they eat blood which they devour in adult feces. Additionally, flea larvae have need of elevated relative humidity (45-95º:.)

Adults fleas frequently start to look for their initial blood meal on the second day after coming out, but they have the ability to live for several months on stored body fat.
Once fleas are on a host, they are inclined to live on that host, feeding, mating, and laying eggs, unless, of course, they become removed. Although fleas have a chosen host, they will readily bite people and can survive using other
species as hosts. Depending on their environmental environment fleas can live up to a a whole year.. It is critical to remember, that it is
not compulsory to have pets in the building in order to have fleas present. This is since fleas will often fall off their original host following a substantial blood mean. If a flea falls off a preferred host while the host is in the open, then the flea will rest where it dropped until it finishes the meal. If a person should saunter near the flea, after it has finished the meal, the flea will leap up onto the human, making the individual its subsequent host. Fleas are able to lay dormant for lengthy periods of time. Therefore if fleas have entered a habitat and the abode becomes dormant; for instance, lets say the the house holders go on a lengthy holiday or the owner sells the residence, then the fleas will hibernate in the locale where they dropped off their last host. When the previous or new family returns to the home, the fleas will wake up from their hibernation and spring onto their new hosts. They will actually pick up their life cycle from where it left off. For this reason, a family buying a new home cannot assume that because the house has been unoccupied for a long time that there are no fleas.
