In 2009, Michael Reece, Debra Herbenick and colleagues at Indiana University published two studies on vibrator use: Prevalence and Characteristics of Vibrator Use by Men in the United States and Prevalence and Characteristics of Vibrator Use by Women in the United States, which proffer a more trustworthy and thorough look at vibrator use. Here are their conclusions:

In general, just under 50% of respondents had used a vibrator at some point. This is true of somewhat more females (52%) than guys (45%).

When are vibrators made use of?

Girls use vibrators frequently during masturbation (46%) and least during lovemaking (37%). In all cases, those who experienced negative side-effects judged them to be reasonably short-lived and insignificant in rigorousness.
