The chief prosecutor claimed he didn't have the person's name. Regardless, he said, the government had promised only to give one day's notice. In an attempt to avoid yet another nasty argument, he agrees that there's really no reason why the name of the witness can't be provided.

The prosecutor tried for a compromise. For the record, I think the prosecution is all wet when it comes to their approach on this case. I have had to wait for months for something to talk about. They keep the witness names from us so that we are less ready for cross examinations. Though they've said their testimony could be found on the back of a matchbook cover, we've provided them with over a thousand pages of printed testimony. When the district attorney sighed and said they'd been getting along so well previously, the courtroom filled with laughter. Already standing and obviously ready to leave, the judge said he had enough to worry about to keep the lawyers in line.
