Very Practical Wedding Gifts Ideas

By: Mike Davis

What good is a shiny and expensive wedding gift if the couple finds no use in it? Gift givers often make the mistake of assuming that the more expensive a gift is, the better. Sure, the couple will probably appreciate it more but they'll find no use with it once the wedding is over so chances are it'll be stored in the basement for decades to come. Or sold in a garage sale a few months after the wedding. The worth of wedding gifts are not measured by the price tags attached to them but the value they give to the lives of the newly-married. That is why when deciding on a wedding gift, it is always best to take the practical path. Think of something that can help them at home or entertain them or help them get things done faster.

1) A cash gift. This is the most practical way to do it. A lot of people will disagree with cash given as wedding gifts. They will reason out that what's the point of giving a gift if all you give is just cash. It seems to defeat the whole idea of gift-giving which should involve anything other than money. They could be right but what matters most is what the bride and groom wants. Cash gifts allow them to do whatever they want with the money. Save it. Buy something good for their new home. However they spend it, it's their choice. It saves time and effort for you as the giver as well as give the new couple the chance to get exactly what they want.

2) A contribution before or during the wedding. Wedding gifts don't have to be things that are delivered in packages. You can ask the new couple that you be a part of the wedding preparations. You could promise them that you'll shoulder some costs like the wedding cake, the souvenirs, the wedding singer or the emcee. This way, they will appreciate you more. They will always remember you as "the one who bought the wedding cake" or "the one who brought in the amazing band who played great music during the celebration".

3) A gift certificate. This will allow the newly married to shop whatever they want. They can use it to buy things they needed that weren't present in all the wedding gifts they received.

4) A vacation package. If the couple loves surfing, you can buy them tickets and reservations in a Hawaiian beach. You will have to make sure though that the dates of your reservations don't coincide with their honeymoon. So schedule your reservations at a date when you think the honeymoon's fairly over.

5) A gift related to the hobbies and interests of the new couple. These are perfect wedding gifts because they're safe which means that they have more chances of being liked than otherwise by the newly-weds. If the bride and groom for instance are film enthusiasts, you can buy them box sets of their favorite actors and directors or a portable video camera which they can use to make their own home videos.

The most useful wedding gifts are the more practical ones so always take the practical route when scouring for a wedding gift.
