We Must Do For Ourselves And Christian Family Values

By: Miss Judy

We Can't Solely Wait Around For God To Achieve For Us, We Have To Organize For Ourselves and Christian Family Values

The other day a exceptionally treasured friend of mine rang with reference to her daughter and her weight. All her life, this young woman has gone on those crazy diets where you lose all that weight and subsequently a month afterward, it is all back on with extra filling, and subsequently she gets stressed out and just gives up totally saying "I guess it's God's wish that I'm fat."
Now I be aware of concerning weight (I've acquired a few spare pounds to keep me going in the winter), but like so many things in life, when the going gets challenging, various just give up rather than pushing forward and overcoming those obstacles. It reminds me so much of that picture my mama always had on her wall "Footprints". Now for you younger folks , it just means that when we're going through those real hard times, it feels like no one's there to aid us and we tend to look to God thinking he'll just magically swoop in and resolve every single one our troubles for us.
Well it just does not work that way. God is continuously there with us, giving us someone to pray to and talk to and give us comfort. When we're in our lowest moments, most times we just wind up feeling sad for ourselves and even when relatives give us the best opinion in love, we just don't plain listen. It's through these times, God is giving us guidance, but it is up to us to take and make it work for us or just stay obstinate and not do anything.
Now back to this young woman, she thought maybe it was a thyroid problem, but after going to the health care provider, that wasn't it. One point in time when I was visiting, she was chatting about how she'd never find a high-quality Christian guy if she did not lose weight and so on. I asked her if she had thought about going to a aerobics studio, and to my shock, she had been a member of a awfully expensive fitness center for just about 3 years! Now don't that take all!
Well my friends, this tale just gets a little more goofier. When I asked her why she was spending so much for a fitness center membership that she wasn't using, she just said that it was like pampering herself following working out. I'm sure many of you are thinking just what I was thinking at the time, "Well then, why aren't you using it?" She explained that the fitness center was a 10 to 15 minute drive away, and she was having a really hard time motivating herself to get in the car and go. Now, we've all had those days where getting ourselves motivated is not the simplest of things to do. Now this young lady is only 30, and I'm surprised at this younger age bracket that looks like they get tired by just getting out of bed and eating last night's cold pizza. Now my valued acquaintance shared with me just this morning that her daughter had dropped her fitness center membership and had bought one of those fancy fitness center treadmills so that she'd have no justification not to work out now since it was only 10 feet away from her. I called the young lady and congratulated her for taking some initiative, and you know what she said?
She said she still was having trouble getting motivated to get on that treadmill, and that it must just be God's way for her to be overweight.
Now as all us good Christians understand, it can be real hard to bite our tongue, but I just couldn't believe what I was hearing. Once more, I know about feeling down and depressed as I went though that a few times in my life, but we can't just keep waiting for God to come swoop in and do everything for us. That's just not how it works. It didn't work for that Microsoft man or the man that created that cute little ipod thingies. They had to bust their butts to make something work for them, and that's a big lesson for all of us. We have to sometimes get our hands dirty to get what we want in life, including having good Christian family values. It's so easy to have excuses for not following the Lord's way, but at the end of the day, we still have to look at ourselves in the mirror and ask, "Did I really put my all into it."
