What Eczema Treatment Could Put An End To All The Scratching

By: Mike Davis

If there is one word that would best describe eczema, it is itchy. It is so itchy, in fact, that the hardest part about having to deal with this skin condition is stopping yourself from scratching. This skin condition appears as itchy skin patches that turn into rashes or blistered oozing skin. You might simply cover it up by wearing long-sleeved clothing or pants and long skirts. These will do nothing to solve your itchy problem. Worse, you might even aggravate your condition even more if you wear clothes made of scratchy fabric. Most medical experts would not have a clear explanation as to the cause of eczema. The most common types of eczema do not have any particular known causes. Others would have allergens or irritants that cause the skin patches to appear. This kind of predisposition towards developing eczema is often explained as coming from hereditary factors or from a malfunction in the skins immune system. The result is skin that is overly sensitive to a whole gamut of external factors. Triggers to eczema breakouts include excessive heat, harsh chemicals, exposure to sunlight, excessive perspiration, metal contact, and highly emotional states among others. Even when there is no known eczema treatment that could permanently get rid of this skin condition, there are ways by which you can manage its irritating effects.
Initially, you should pay your dermatologist a visit to give you an idea as to what type of eczema you have. Depending on your dermatologist's diagnosis, you might be prescribed with a number of things . Different types of eczema might require different treatment methods. A common eczema treatment recommended for most types of eczema is a hydrocortisone treatment. There are several formulations in the hydrocortisone family. There are other steroidal preparations that your dermatologist might recommend. Varying strengths of these steroidal preparations are available. It is common practice for dermatologists to recommend a weaker steroidal preparation before moving on to full-strength steroidal preparations. The reason for this is that there could be side effects to the use of these steroidal preparations. You have to make sure that you follow your dermatologist's instructions in using these preparations. Excessive use of these steroidal medications could cause your skin to thin in what is called as skin atrophy. Leaving your eczema to persist without treatment would result in the thickening of the affected skin.
Other recommended eczema treatment involves practices that actually make conditions less than ideal for these skin irritations to persist. These practices do not really get rid of eczema. Medical experts have yet to find a permanent cure to this condition. What they actually do is ease the irritating effects of eczema. They stop the itch so that you do not have to scratch and make it worse. These practices include keeping the skin moisturized, clean, and healthy at all times. Using mild soaps and skin products as well as hypoallergenic formulations are highly recommended to prevent any more skin irritations. If skin continues to itch, try a cold compress instead of scratching. And if all else fails, you should go back to your dermatologist to see what other eczema treatment you can try.
