Where To Begin SEO Analysis

By: Kathy Johnston

When it comes to your search engine optimisation plan, you need to know where to start. For just about every website, the beginning is the free SEO analysis most SEO companies offer. This is a good start, as a free search engine optimisation analysis allows you to judge how much work is needed. It does help, however, if you’re able to look at your site on your own as well.

There are a lot of factors that count toward your site’s ranking, and a free search engine optimization analysis will look at these. You can discuss this with us at SEO Consult. There are a couple of areas you can look at for yourself to see roughly where you currently sit. This can help you to prepare before approaching an SEO company about optimization.

* Rankings for your current main keywords. Even if you haven’t undergone any form of SEO before, you’re likely to have one or two keywords for which you’d like to rank. A pet supplies company, for example, is going to want to rank at a decent position for the keyword ‘pet supplies’. Finding out where you sit is easy enough to do – just Google it.

* Current traffic. Some knowledge of current traffic levels is required when deciding traffic goals. Be sure to look at not just traffic generally across the site, but page-specific traffic. This can give you an idea of which pages need more work.

* Current conversions. This is an area that is going to be of more interest to you than it will be to your SEO company, and knowing your statistics can help you to form goals for your optimisation plan. Your conversion rate is the amount of traffic divided by the conversions you obtain. A more sophisticated analysis will help you pinpoint where increases are needed.
