Learning how to write an essay can be hard sometimes. Make sure not to try and write an essay straight through from beginning to end. Instead, look at an essay as if it were several steps; it is easier if you break up the essay into parts. Before I write my essay, I pay attention to three things: I form a specific thesis sentence; I write an outline to follow; I then fill the body of the essay. I finish write essay with a strong conclusion.
First, decide on a topic for your essay. This will be expanded on in our introduction. A lot of times the topic of your essay is decided for you. However, it is still up to you to come up with a thesis sentence. The thesis sentence describes what your essay will be about and what view you are taking. It is better to write essay with a specific thesis. When I write my essay, I stay specific because it also guides you on what topics you want to write about in the body of the essay.
After the thesis and introduction are complete, write an outline. An outline is an ordered list of how the paper will be written. When learning how to write an essay, a good outline is a must. First thing to write in your outline is the thesis sentence. After that write down the main points you want to use proving your thesis leaving space below each topic for more specific examples of that topic. Refer to your outline to write essay. The outline is flexible so do not be afraid of revising it. The outline’s main purpose is to keep you on track so refer back to it often when writing your essay.
When the outline is done you can start on the body of the essay. The body of the essay is where you will illustrate several different ideas to prove the point of your thesis sentence. Give each main idea from your outline its own paragraph. Begin each paragraph by stating the main idea. After you state the main idea, write using the sub points from your outline. When I write my essay, I end each paragraph with a sentence that explains what that paragraph was about. Use that last sentence to flow and transition one paragraph to the next. An example of this would be, “Now that you are finished with the body of the essay, you can begin ending the paper with a conclusion.”
When finishing the paper with a conclusion, summarize the body and the thesis over again. Do not say exactly what has already been written, but rather write the same thing in another way. Now that you know how to write an essay, make sure to proofread it to finish. After you write essay, it is best to use both spell and grammar checks. However, the computer will not catch everything so read over your essay thoroughly before you consider it finished.
