XBox 360 Kinect

By: Margot Oliver

With the overwhelming popularity of the Nintendo Wii, both Microsoft and Sony have decided to delve into the realm of motion control.

Microsoft has formulated a controller that they formerly referred to as "project netal" but renamed as Kinect.
Approximately a year ago - Microsoft announced "Project Nata". It demo'ed a few games that showed it's motion capabilities and was a hit with audiences everywhere.

Project Natal stood out from the Wii as well as the Playstation 3 version due to the fact that it did not have a controller to be held by player. (This can be looked at as a great asset for the system or may actually be a downside as far as some consumers are concerned.)

The games that have been presented appear to be very well done and creative. There are videos below that show parts of some of the games.

At this year's E3 (electronics entertainment expo), on June 13,2010 - Natal underwent a name change and became "Kinect" - It will be marketed and sold under this name.
The interactivity that Kinect offers is far beyond what the Wii offers at this time. It promises to engage the player as a whole vs. just interacting with a hand held controller.

How It Works
Kinect uses a 3-D camera and motion sensors to track 48 points on the human body.
It will then translate these positions into on screen in-game actions.
