Tanzania is a good gateway to visiting several African destinations in one trip. It is conveniently located near some African destinations that that have similar, yet different experiences to the things people tend to visit Tanzania for. It can be easy to use Tanzania as a gateway to a larger African continent itinerary, especially if your interests lie in safaris or the beach.

It is quite common for people to visit both Tanzania and Kenya on the same trip using either country as their gateway to the African continent. Usually people visit both countries on a safari vacation. Tanzania has plenty of great safari opportunities, but it is a nice addition to use Tanzania as a gateway to Kenya and experience the Kenya side of the Serengeti, especially if you plan to visit Africa when the Great Migration is in the Kenya part of the cycle.

The advantage of using Tanzania as a gateway to Kenya is in that there are some other great nearby activities on the Tanzania side. This includes Mount Kilimanjaro for those that desire to attempt to reach the summit of the tallest mountain in Africa or take a mountain bike tour around the mountain. There are also other national parks to enjoy besides the Serengeti including Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which is more than just a wildlife destination. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is also commonly visited by those that have an interest in the early human archeological finds that have been excavated in the Olduvai Gorge region of Ngorongoro.

Beach vacation lovers will also find Tanzania a convenient gateway to other beach destinations in Africa. First off flying into Dar es Salaam in Tanzania is itself a gateway to the beach destinations in Tanzania, as you can drive to the coastal beaches form it and catch flights to the island of Zanzibar. For those that want to experience more beaches than just what Tanzania has to offer, can easily use Tanzania as a gateway to the popular African beach destination of the Seychelles.

While Tanzania does have plenty of great beaches including some remote luxury private island resorts, many find it a great advantage to be able to also easily use Tanzania as a gateway to the Seychelles. The Seychelles are considered on of the best beach destinations, especially in the African continent. It is also more beach vacation oriented than Tanzania as a whole, as most people visit Tanzania for safaris despite the beaches still being about as good as the Seychelles.
